Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, we do. The type of insurance plan you have may also have an impact on the therapist that you are paired with. Some insurance companies will not pay for services covered by specific licensure levels and not all therapists are credentialed with all insurance panels even if the group itself accepts the plan.

Credit and debit cards are processed through Stripe. You will need to have a card on file at the start of treatment, and your card will only be charged for copays or deductibles due. You can set your card up for autopay. If you are having trouble paying your copays or deductibles, please reach out to the owner of BBHC, Julia Thouin, directly at jthouin@bbhctherapy.com to discuss potential payment options. It is our goal not to create a financial hardship for our clients to receive treatment nor do we want our clients to go without treatment due to finances, but we also need to ensure we are compensated fairly for the services we provide.
There is a lot of paperwork, yes, but these forms serve a very important purpose. Nearly every professional that you receive services from where your health and safety are considered will have you fill out these kinds of forms like consent to treat, practice policies and financial agreements. You will only have to fill out these forms at the start of treatment and then again once per year. Also, please note that sometimes your insurance company requires these forms to be filled out and demographic information and that is out of our hands as a practice. If you choose not to use your insurance, we may not need all of this information, but most people need to use their benefits to make treatment more affordable.
Someone from BBHC (may not necessarily be your clinician- it may be an admin or a supervisor) will contact you from BBHC via phone or email. Keep a lookout for both! We will walk you through the steps and get you on your way to receiving treatment.
Legal first and last name, address, date of birth, sex at birth and your insurance information. This information is required so we can verify your insurance benefits if you are choosing to use your benefits to pay for services. If we are not able to verify your insurance, we cannot place you with your preferred clinician if you have one. To prevent delays in starting treatment please be prepared to provide this information at the time of referral.
All of our therapists have professional degrees that allow them to provide clinical treatment as a therapist. All clinicians except those clinicians who require supervision (meaning they have a graduate degree but have not gotten independently licensed yet) and interns are licensed by their respective boards. Clinicians who are under supervision working towards licensure and interns are supervised by fully independent licensed clinicians (LICSW) to ensure quality of care. If you are going to be treated by an intern, you will be notified of this information beforehand so you can consent to being treated by an intern.
At this time we only treat adults 18 years and older for individual treatment. You must also be a Massachusetts resident and if you are receiving telehealth services you must be present in the State of Massachusetts at the time of your appointment. Even if you are employed in Massachusetts and that is where you receive your insurance benefits from, you still need to be physically located in Massachusetts at the time of your appointment. This pertains to licensing. Each state has their own licensure system and because in the United States we unfortunately we do not have an interstate compact fully executed we cannot treat clients outside of the states we are licensed. Some clinicians may be licensed in multiple states, please feel free to inquire about who is licensed in what states.
Yes, we are fully insured by HPSO.
We use SimplePractice. SimplePractice allows you to set up a portal which includes access to your important information. You can download an app to use SimplePractice on your phone. SimplePractice can be set up to send reminders (highly recommended) and has a secure message feature to communicate with your clinician and the practice. Your video appointment links will be sent via SimplePractice to your email and/or via text.
We kindly ask that you commit to trying to troubleshoot any barriers to using the video option. The video option isn’t just a preference. Some insurance companies are actually the ones who have a preference for audio/visual treatment versus audio only treatment. Some insurances may not pay for audio only services unless reasonable effort to make audio/visual treatment work and medical necessity can be established otherwise.
